It was good to have a break from Om's chatting away. She is caught up in her story now and likely won't stop until she is ready to. My emotions are all other the place. My sister's life was unfolding before me, and yet I'd thought that all of the intrigue and digression in our generation's life had been mine. Now she is busy at the primus, something is different. Yes that's it, the primus it's new. Where did that come from? I'm staring at it, it's shiny and has two burners, Hmmmm......my thoughts are shifted again, the door has creaked open, I turn and see no one. It was an involuntary opening, a gust of wind perhaps; I'm returning my attention to Om, bent over the stove. Yes it is a gust, her light skirt is lifting and falling in the draft, every now and then her panties appear, as if in one curtain call after another. Om is oblivious to the curtain calls, busy with lunch. Damn, I have an erection, why.....I cross my legs lest she look over and see my involuntary response to the draft. Oh Christ...... that's' it, way back.... the gazebo......the farang wasn't alone in enjoying my sister......that's why I'm so confused about Anne,......maybe she's mine! Om turned away from the shiny new primus, its two burners still hissing out their clear blue flames. She took a step toward me. Now the primus was behind her. In the half light of the house I could still see its pretty blue flames.....silhouetting my dear sister's lower anatomy. Oh my God I can feel the erection again......impulsively I thrust my hand between my legs.......I can feel nothing.... yes....of course it's gone....I well up, a tear leaves the corner of my eye. The human nervous system is a nightmare.... just as the site an extracted tooth can ache years after the extraction; I can still feel an erection that is not there. Om notices there is something wrong;
'What is it Songchai......what's the matter?"
I...I... was just remembering our youth, how much has happened since then;
'Don't worry Songchai...our secret is safe with me, I enjoyed it too'
B..b...bb.... but you don't understand Om ...I...I can't explain...;
'You don't need to darling brother. I've known for years. Do you really think that your sister would not have noticed that you've changed?'
God this is awfully difficult, I don't quite know how to handle it;
Om giggles, a girlish giggle, I've not heard her giggle like that since she ran away;
'You can't handle. It's not there. You had it cut off!'
Om's bursts into laughter, I can feel my face burning, but at last my psychosomatic erection abates. Om quells her laughter but it's still squeezing between her closed lips and blowing a raspberry at me.....;
'Come on Songchai, let us eat lunch. I've made some red curry for you and some Kao-Pat-Goong (fried rice with vegetables and prawns), it's such a joy to be able to give you a good meal at last'.
Indeed lunch was very good. I wondered how she could afford such splendor and a new primus too. Om read my thoughts;
'I kept the farang's address all these years, He wrote it down on a cigarette packet. I sewed it into the lining of my suede jacket, you know, the one dad bought me for my fourteenth birthday. After I wrote to you last month to get you to come and see me because I wanted to kill myself again I remembered the cigarette packet, slit open my jacket and it was still there. So....anyway....I wrote to the farang and he replied. He put a hundred dollar bill in with his letter. He said that he'd lost my address and when Air America sent all of the foreign advisors home he pined for me for ages. He said that he got married but it ended in divorce because every time he made love with his wife he just kept thinking of me! Can you believe it, after all these years? He said he still loves me and asked if I still love him? I can't really even remember what he looks like anymore, but if he does come to see me, and if I like him, I'm not going to kill myself; I going to go away with him. Oh; look at the time, I must continue my story. I need to tell you all because if I do go away I may not be able to';
By now I felt exhausted, emotionally that is; but I let her carry on anyway;
'Now like I told you Songchai, Chenda had just convened a 'War Council Meeting. When his anthem finished he asked everybody to stand to attention for a one minute in silent memory of the villages killed on that Island that Air America napalmed. While they stood in silence, the sound of an approaching helicopter filled the room. The men all started to shuffle in an agitated sort of way. Chenda commanded them to stand still and that he would start the one minute silence again. When the minute was up Chenda said;
"We shall remember them"
'Everyone in the room repeated it in a load an angry roar;'
"We shall remember them"
'Then they all sat down, by the time the shuffling and mumbling amongst the men had stopped the noise of the helicopter had stopped too. Then I could hear someone coming up the steps. He came inside. I couldn't see him until he got to the platform. He was a big man. He was wearing plus-fours and an American flying jacket. His berry had five gold stars on it. The men were all hushed. You could hear their breathing. Chenda stepped down from the platform, Oz got out of his chair and Chenda sat there. Oz went and stood with the men who had all got up and were holding a salute. The man cleared his through, stood in front of Chenda's chair and looked slowly round the room just had Chenda had. Then he came to attention and saluted the men. The men all started chanting;
"Chez...Chez ....Chez....Chez......."
They must have said it fifty times before he gestured with his hands that they should all be quiet. Then he started talking;
"Comrades, we are so proud of you. The Yanks run before our mighty revolution like a stampede of whipped animals. Today I bring you news of great battles in which our comrades are victorious;
One; we have taken the important strategic objective of the town of Paxe in Laos. There was an illustrious battle in which your comrades overwhelmed the American forces and took the town and the Air America airfield. This is a bitter blow to the American war machine and a great publicity for our cause, for surely such a sound defeat of this important town and airfield will make the World News.
Two; I can confirm to you today that we have inflicted heavy losses on the Hmong forces in the battle for the 'Plaines des Jarres, where we inflicted heavy losses on the Hmong fighters, it seems that the training given them by The Thai Police Airborne Reinforcement Unit (PARU) was not that good. The Yanks threw the Hmong to our wolves with only four days weapons training. Now the Hmong have infiltrated the highlands around the Plaines Des Jarres and are occupying the mountain peaks. Now that that the Hmong have been redeployed to the mountain tops around the Plaines Des Jarres, Air America are re-supplying with rations and weapons with C-46's and C-47's, you must, whatever your orders, shoot down this type aircraft at every opportunity.
Three; I congratulate all of you here on your recent operations, especially the Air America bomber which I can confirm to you crashed and burst into flames on landing in Udon. Further since you were able to bring down an F4 Phantom I have notified Hanoi that the detail that carried out that attack should be decorated.
Four; Alpha group operating North of here have brought down three helicopters and one C-46. The North Vietnamese troops operating in Laos are most grateful to see this type of aircraft shot down.
Finally; I bring new orders for you commander Chenda; he will brief each platoon leader individually. Our war is changing and intelligence tells us that our operations in Thailand must be reduced in order to throw all of our might against the Hmong Militia. Our aim is to destroy them to a man for their criminal military interference in our revolution in Laos".
'With that he saluted the men and left immediately. Within minutes we heard his chopper take off again and head back into to Laos. Songchai, I was thrilled to the marrow, I'd no idea that there was a war in Thailand, or in Laos. These American's like the SRF (CIA) and Air America (CIA) were operating all over Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Apparently it all started with the Americans trying to help the Farang-Sairt (French) to keep Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. That we in Thailand would support anything to do with the French truly amazed me. Why doesn't our Prime Minister, Marshal Sarit Thanarat tell us about it? Anyway after everyone had settled down Chenda returned to the platform and called the War Council to 'order and started to speak again'.
"Now you have met 'Chez' our great leader I can tell you that he has the personal support of 'Kong Le' our hero leading our comrades against the forces of General Phomi and the Thai PARU in Laos. Our job, during the coming months, is to cause as much destruction of Air America aircraft and facilities as we can. But first we have to abandon this Island home of ours. We will send all of the women and children to Paxe, which is now safely in the hands of our comrades. Then all fighting men will be relocated, in small cells of two platoons, and spread out along the Mekong in preparation to execute the orders which I shall give to your individual commanders in secret"
'I really didn't like this last bit; the thought of being sent off to Paxe without my precious Chenda was the last thing that I wanted'
