Cheese.
One thing that I miss living here is cheese.
My wife, the DarLek, quite likes cheese. I usually am able to get Aussie cheese at Tops or Robinson's stores for about 130 Baht for 250 grams.
This is the factory type product, all wrapped up nicely in plastic.
Too get "real" cheese, like Camembert, Jarlsberg, Edam, is a lot harder and to damn expensive.
However the other day I saw some "Real" Edam on sale.
Now my cloggy mates may disagree on how real it was, but for me, any cheese that is still with it's outer shell is real for me!
Now DarLek and I haven't fed the daughter Jing-Joe cheese yet, and sure enough, I cut a few bits out and she jumped at it!
Loves the stuff!
I cut some more up, made toast, and put slices on that ? yummy!
DarLek tucked in and we all had a nice treat.
The Edam by the way was 89 Baht for a Kilo ? very good price!
Last night I saw there was still some in the fridge, and asked DarLek to burn some toast and make some.
Ok, after about 10 minutes, (she had to make some for herself and JingJoe first ? gotta keep the troops happy) I got a plate and to be honest I just stared at what I saw!
I turned to DarLek, who was chewing very thoughtful, but with obvious distaste.
"DarLek, the cheese is chewy?" I asked.
Frowning she nodded.
"Not nice?"
Again she nodded.
"DarLek, before cutting the cheese you have to remove the red wax."
Those with sophisticated and refined tastes like myself will know Edam comes with a thick outer coating of bright red wax. DarLek, bless her Isaan soul, thought this was an important part of the cheese and had left it on the slices she cut, on my toast, and also on the mouthful she was eating!
