decreaseSunday 13 October: I bought a mobile phone for Lek for her birthday (8 Nov).
Wednesday 16 October: Toy phoned and said that she was returning to Bangkok "tonight". I took this to mean that she would catch a bus "tonight" and arrive on Thursday morning. She was actually in Bangkok already, and stayed at Mem's without telling me that this was what was happening. I visited Cleopatra’s, and took Nok home with me to help my lonely condition.
Friday 18 October: Toy purchased tickets for what will hopefully be her last trip to Ubon for some time. I visited Lek, advising Toy, who took the opportunity to go to Mem's to cook food for the monk.
Saturday 19 October: Lek went to Buri Ram.
Sunday 20 October: Toy and Joy went to Ubon Ratchathani on the 2230 train. Jeab was on the phone late night/early morning - 03:00.
Monday 21 October: I locked both phones in the master bedroom before going to work. I was unable to get the money from the bank for Toy to pay for repairs for the car. Toy phoned about the money at 10 PM and I undertook to call her back on Tuesday 22 at 1 PM to tell her what was happening.
Tuesday 22 October: Toy phoned at 9:15 AM about the money again. I got the money for her a 1/2 hour later and she was happy.
Wednesday 23 October: A public holiday in Thailand, and I worked for 2 hours. I phoned Toy and we spoke for several minutes.
Wednesday 30 October: I returned to the apartment at 1:00 P.M. The front door was bolted and Jeab was on the phone (to Joy?). She finished the call about 1:20. I put money into the bank for Toy, but could not contact her until evening as the battery for Toy’s mobile phone had been exhausted by the Jeab/Joy phone call. Inspection of the phone bill when it arrived confirmed that Jeab had been speaking to Joy.
Friday 1 November: Toy returned.
Saturday 2 November: Toy consulted me about some things she had been seeing around the apartment, and began a sequence described in http://www.thailandstories.com/article/non-fiction/the-niece.html
Sunday 3 November: I visited Lek for 3 hours in the afternoon and “spent” myself. Later at home, Toy gave me some hints that she might be interested, but was disappointed if she expected anything.
Monday 4 November: I stayed home, talked with Toy. We spoke of travel to Australia (3 trips next year?), Jeab's telephone habits and the associated bills, and the possibility of us having a baby - she said that she wants(!) one with me when we return to Australia. Jeab's pager went off at 11 PM, waking me and giving credence to our earlier discussion.
Monday 11 November: A bill for Lek’s mobile phone arrived. The international calls – all to 2 numbers in Germany – totalled more than 15,000 Baht. I decided that Lek had outlived her usefulness, and I had to get rid of her.
Tuesday 12 November: I visited Lek with the phone bill, and commenced the extrication process. I put on a front of being reasonable and asked Lek if she could pay the bill. She eventually said “No, the phone is yours, you must pay the bill”. Armed with this bit of logic, I took the phone and its peripherals, returned home, and stayed with Toy. Lek protested that I could not take the phone, but I reminded her that she had told me that the phone and the bill were mine, the two things were inseparable. I got the phone, and I never paid the bills; I just got a new SIM card.
Saturday 16 November: Toy, Mem, Jeab and Joy departed for Ubon Ratchathani on the 6:05 AM train, supposedly to stay there for 3 days. They told me that they had to go to their Tambon to vote in elections. Because Mem was a party to the excuse, I believed this.
Sunday 17 November: Lek departed for Buri Ram in the company of her sister and niece.
Monday 18 November: Another mobile phone bill for 5,100 Baht arrived, this for domestic calls.
