Wednesday 22 January: Toy phoned Meo Pepper, a Thai woman married to an Australian, and spoke with her briefly. Meo and husband [John] later arrived. Toy and Mem took their luggage and went with Meo and John. Subsequent discussion with John revealed that Toy had somehow got the idea that I was going to take her and Mem’s passports and airline tickets, and abandon the two women in Australia.
Tuesday 28 January: Toy, Mem, and I returned to Thailand. This truncated our holiday by 5 days.
Wednesday 29 January: Toy put on a turn about duty-free goods bought when we were in Australia. I decided that I could take no more of her antics, and terminated the relationship by simply withholding all of the goods purchased in Australia, and letting her decide to leave. That way, she thought that she was the one breaking the relationship, but in reality, I had forced her hand; I had finally gained control of the situation.
Toy departed carrying her luggage from the trip to Australia, and leaving the majority of her clothes in the apartment. At 3:30 PM, I was waiting outside Itokin for the “interesting lady” to exit at the completion of her working day. I had been seeing her occasionally after work since we first met in November. I invited her to have a meal with me, and being Thai, she accepted the offer of free food. When we were eating, I told her that I would like her to think about a relationship with me (but I put it a little more romantically than that), and she accepted on the spot. She and I went straight to the room that she shared with her cousin, got her personal effects, and went back to the apartment
Note: Oddly enough, about this time, I found a photo of Toy with the father of their 2 children. He bore a remarkable resemblance to the "driver" who helped to spirit number 2 daughter away from her evil father. That was when I realised that, beyond any doubt, I had been right royally screwed.
Saturday 24 May: Toy returned to the apartment to get the remainder of her belongings. The “interesting lady” is starting to show her pregnancy, and Toy did a classic double-take when she realised that there was more there than met the eye. Toy was so stunned by the obvious pregnancy that she failed to notice that some of her outfits had disappeared. My “special lady” had selected the best of them to send to her relatives in Isaan, and had also given Toy’s hair-drier to her mother.
Thursday 3 December 1997: Our son arrived.
Friday 16 January 1998: 2 days before we flew to Australia at the end of my tour of duty here, I decided to visit Mem, Toy’s cousin, before I left for Australia. I had not seen her since the 29th January 1997, and I had no problems or disagreement with her. I also saw her as a conduit for getting a very special message to Toy. “special lady” and Mem got on so well on the Friday that they met that we took Mem out for a night on the town on the Saturday night. The following is what went down on those 2 nights.
I usually travel with what is called in the US a “fanny pack”(?). I keep my camera in it, but this time I used it for something else. I carried approximately 180,000 Baht in it, as well as my bankbook. The bankbook had a very healthy >500,000 Baht balance. “Special lady” and I conspired to make this known to Mem. The plan was that when we met Mem, I would decide to go to the shop for a few bottles of beer – Bia Sing for Mem and Bia Chang for me. I would leave my fanny pack in “special lady”’s care, and she would extol my virtues to Mem, commenting on how generous I am, and how much money I had. And while she had the opportunity - in my absence upon the mission to secure the beer - she would show all of this to Mem. This sort of revelation was certain to find its way back to Toy, even if it was to get there indirectly. And on the Saturday night, we went to the Derby King 2 restaurant in Patpong. When we had finished eating, I check-binned, but “special lady” and Mem wanted to stay and talk while I wanted to see the sights. So I handed a 1,000 Baht note to special lady to cover any further expenses she might incur there (specifically so that Mem could see it) and departed to somewhere with other diversions.
And on the flight to Australia the next day, special lady admitted to having told Mem a few porky pies [lies] on the Saturday night.
It seems that when Toy and I had made the final split, Toy had descended upon Mem as a source of money and a place to live. Mem’s budget did not stretch to Toy’s tastes and Mem eventually told Toy to go somewhere else to live (and sponge). Toy also ruined Mem’s big holiday, the 2 weeks in Australia, by refusing to go out with me to see the sights, and by running off to Meo and John’s house (obligating Mem to go with her). So Toy had taken Mem’s direction to leave seriously, and had disappeared.
Epilogue: I have not seen Toy since the day that she returned to the apartment to collect what was left of her belongings, I last saw her daughters on Friday 27 December 1996, and I don’t miss any of them at all. I visit Mem every time that I return to Thailand, and we get on very well. And yes, Mem is on my “to-do” list. My marriage to Toy was dissolved in September 2000.
“Special lady” terminated her relationship with me in December 2001, and I very quickly found a really good Thai girl, ironically, from the Amphur town which encompasses the village of special lady. I married the good girl in February 2003.
The End.

Well, that was very interesting, well set out. I just hope you learnt a lesson, because for a while there things didn't look good. Just goes to show how vigilant you have to be at times, and maybe keeping a running diary of what happens isn't such a bad idea....
