Carousel

She smiled at me from the D _ _ _ _ _ _ _ carousel;
When she saw me watching her go round and round.
At the end of the set she came to sit with me
And I bought her a drink. Then straight away
She said, “You barfine me?” I said, “OK.”
But was it just for baht? – I couldn’t tell.

Then as we walked she proceeded to tell
Her life story – which was far from OK:
An abusive Thai husband who’d run away
With a karaoke girl. Now she had me.
Happy again! What goes around comes around –
Karma – the Buddhist spiritual carousel.

That’s how we started on love’s carousel:
But whether for better or worse I cannot tell.

Very nice; but why the blank letters?

Perhaps because the piece was part of a guess the go-go series time ago, I dimly recall

Yes, Icarus; I devined the same but where does it stop? Why not just replace ever letter in the submission with blanks?

To be fair to the author; one of he hardest decisions to make in writing is how much exposition or clues to include, and how much to demand that the reader figure out on their own.

The blanks are for two reasons: a) the bars vary so much from day to day that I don't want any comments of mine to be taken as any sort of guide to whether they are any good or not, and b) I'm not sure of the legal situation. I had a spot of bother a few years ago about copyright, and it has made me ultra careful about legal issues. I think that referring to the bars by name is probably OK, and have done it in my recent work. I wonder if anyone can offer clarification on this topic.
