Holiday ‘Soapas’

The winter birds arrive
before the end of November;
from Germany, Holland,
England, and of course -
a large group from Scandinavia.

The annual ritual begins.
The seasonal rumor mills
start working;
friends from last year
show cold shoulders to each other
and align themselves with strangers.

Life in the Condo on the beach
creates anew a living 'soapa'.

I've promised myself
to stay aloof,
to remain an outsider.

Already I imagine the whispers.
"Who is this stranger?"

I prefer to smile hello
and go my own way.
I do not wish to become a part
in these recycled 'soapas'.
