An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claim is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject.

Just so we all know what is being done and why this is not wanted on Thailandstories.com.
We will not let this site become a platform for this sort of abuse, criticism and personal attacks. You don’t like what the author of a story says? Write a comment about why you disagree about what was written. Do not direct your criticism at the author personally. Some should, as they can’t seem to control themselves in their commentary, just not comment on certain other writers’ stories. It seems there is some personal history of excessive argument and personal attacks on other websites by a few of our members writing here. That animosity is, at times, being carried over onto this site. These ‘cute’ well-crafted, yet still ‘ad hominem’, attacks will not be tolerated here. Future personal attacks in the comments area will just be deleted before ever hitting the front page of the site’s comment area. I don’t have the time or the energy to baby-sit, or to explain why a comment was deleted every time it is. It just will be gone. We really have not had much problem with this over the past two years. We do not intend to let it start happening now.
The comments area is for commenting on the stories, not for the petty personal squabbles to be acted out endlessly by a few that disrupts the entire site and bothers all the other writers and members reading here who appreciate a respite from all the internet flame warrior baloney going on elsewhere on the net. That is not what we are about and not what we want our comments area to be used for. We prefer polite, civil, intelligent, and more importantly ‘on topic’ commentary. Of course this also includes friendly banter and humor as well among friends and peers. Our site is supposed to be a fun place to submit and publish one’s stories and articles, not a battleground of egos. I feel we have done very well so far in that respect and the site shows this in its constant steady growth over the past two years. We think the majority of people using this site enjoy what we have created here and want the site to continue on as it has without a lot of disruptive and counter-productive arguing and ad hominem attacks.
Disagree with a story or the info in an article? Write your own story or article explaining why you disagree; one without any personal attacks. Or make your case in a comment, sticking to the point and gist of your gripe, without making it a personal attack on the author.
Can’t do that? Don’t post up comments then. Restrain your urge to do verbal jousting on this site in a too personal manner. Do your personal battles elsewhere. This website isn’t the place for that sort of thing, and we will not let a couple/few people ruin this excellent, enjoyable website because they cannot get along personally with each other elsewhere and want to continue their battles here on Thailand Stories because there is a comments function provided they think they can use to make their personal digs and disparagements.
Don’t like a particular writer? Then don’t read their stories or articles! It’s not that difficult to do. Not every story will be to your liking. Not every story you write will be liked by one and all. But, just because you do not like a story (or author), it does not give you the right to make personal attacks or impolite comments that have no value as a commentary or constructive IMPERSONAL criticism on the story written.
That’s it I would think. Play nice.
