Receive automatic updates of this site

ThailandStories offers the ability to receive automatic updates to our content by way of an RSS feed. For those of you who do not know what an RSS feed is (and I would imagine this is most people :) ), here is a quick explanation from XML.com:

RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired, news-oriented community sites like Slashdot, and personal weblogs. But it's not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the "recent changes" page of a wiki, a changelog of CVS checkins, even the revision history of a book. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way.

RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.

What that means to you and me is that by using an RSS newsfeed reader you can receive updates of the latest stories posted on this site completely automatically.

Sound interesting?

Here's how to set it up.

  1. Download a newsreader, for instance Tristana Reader

  2. Install the reader on your PC and run it.

  3. Add a new 'Content Channel'. In Tristana Reader you do this by selecting File -> Add a Content Channel, or by pressing CTRL-N. In the window that pops up enter "http://www.thailandstories.com/rss.xml" (without the quotes) and click the Add button.

  4. That's it. Your done.

Any change to the latest articles will automatically be 'pushed' to your computer and you will receive a notification.
