To Namtai, on reading my poetry
Bangkok Byron, June 16, 2010
O-oh, my girlfriend's found my poetry folder! "Who are all these other girls!" she screams. "It's just a stance," I reply, "a poet's POV." "I hate those movies," she snaps. "Come again?" I say, mystified.

In this parody, Alexander Pope’s 18th century London, becomes 20th century Bangkok, and the society belle Belinda becomes the bargirl Jiab. This is a repost of a poem that was posted a year ago, then taken down for revision.

The Spell of Thailand
Bangkok Byron, September 8, 2007
In ‘The Spell of the Yukon’, by Robert Service, the poet describes how men are attracted to the Yukon because of the gold, then fall in love with the country and the excitement of prospecting. In my adaptation, the Yukon = Thailand, cold = hot, gold = girls, and the fun of “finding” is same same.

So Much More Than a Gogo Dancer
Bangkok Byron, July 3, 2007
A poem based on an actual experience. It saddened me that, for all her skill in classical Thai dancing, Suwan was forced by sheer want of cash to work in a gogo bar.
