I'm sorry I didn't comment on Thai Gold so much sooner because I've been busy as hell here in Chiang Mai but I feel that I should right now. Thai Gold remains my favorite novel of all time so Jason Schoonover is my favorite author! This is the kind of story that not only shows you Jason's love for archeology, Thailand, exploring, go-go bars as an archeologist himself but it succeeds in pulling you right straight into that story within the very first paragraph. This is kind of Indiana Jones meets Rambo but done so much better. Being a Chiang Mai man who's been multiple times to Mae Hong Son and dealt with some of Khun Sa's people, I loved the takeoff on the opium warlord who now hasn't been dead all that long. Likewise, what Jason does with Patpong, the Orient Express to Singapore and the boat run from Singapore to the Philippines shows us a man who lives, works, drinks, screws and knows his way around Southeast Asia perfectly! If my own stories are of any interest to readers, I owe a lot of it to being inspired by Jason and Chris Moore. If you haven't read Thai Gold yet--or the long-awaited sequel--please do so! I can all but promise you won't be disappointed at all! Jasaon--keep the Mekhong flowing!
