Due to the large amount of spam we've been getting lately in comments on stories (we've been deleting them manually so as not to annoy you with them), we've had to turn the image verification feature on for comments. We're sorry for the extra field to be required to be filled out, but deleting some 300 spam comments after a few days absence is getting ridiculous.

Time for some figures. Last week we broke 3,000 comments on the stories, and today we've reached the 500,000 story reads mark. Onwards to the million :)

Due to the fact that many readers living in and visiting Thailand also have an interest in the South-East Asia area, we have included a new category on Thailand Stories titled: ‘Stories from Around SEA’. This new category is open for submission for stories set in or about countries in South-East Asia, excluding Thailand. We hope this new category will be something you all will enjoy for its extra reading material on subjects about the SEA area.

March 8th (Saturday) book launch/signing at Kinokuniya Book Store in Emporium (Sukhumvit) Shopping Complex. (3rd floor, Room 301-3) for the new book ‘Bangkok Blondes’ authored by ‘The Bangkok Women’s Writers Group’. Very few books on Thailand are written by women. 'Bangkok Blondes' is one of the first.

Mike is back in Surin after a month's absence due to family illness and can be reached again on mike@thailandstories.com.
We have also received word that sisterray had a nasty case of malaria, but is luckily well on the way to recovery again. Sisterray, we hope to see you 100% recovered again soon.

There have been some problems adding articles in the last few days, and it seems that it may be related to copying-pasting from the new Word for Windows Vista. We are looking into it, but in the meantime could you avoid using Word for Vista?

We've upgraded the editor for entering stories to the latest version. Hopefully this will fix the problems sometimes occurring when importing stories from Word.

The stories on the site have been read a combined 200,000 times.
The code allowing you to set how many stories are shown on the front page has been completed. The value you choose is now kept between visits to the site.

In addition to being able to comment on the stories here (which is still the prefered method), two other avenues have sprung up in the form of a forum on Schoochers.com as well as a forum on the newly established 'The HoltBlog Forum'.
The appearance of these forums (fora?) do beg the question whether or not we should add one here. Thoughts are welcome.

We've implemented the first stage of the feature allowing you to change the number of stories displayed on the home page. It is possible to change the amount now using the pull down box to the right of Latest Stories, but this value is not yet kept. We're hoping to get that functionality implemented within the next couple of days.

Well, that was a bit unexpected :)
Turning on the rating system has caused quite a stir and quite a bit of feedback, all of it against using a rating system. Since our main purpose is to provide a place for writers and readers that suits their needs we have taken this feedback to heart and the rating system has been turned off again.

The comments feature seems to be quite popular seeing that the number of comments on the stories has exceeded 1,000.

The server move has been succesfull and the outage problems should now be a thing of the past.
Oh, btw, we're only 1 story short of 700, and it - and a couple dozen others - is already lined up to be published soon.

Looks like we totally forgot our anniversary (luckily neither of us is female, so nobody got upset :) ) which was February 5th. The year has gone quite quickly and rather well for us as the latest figures show: 64 writers who wrote a combined 614 stories (with another 49 in the pipeline) which were read 120,000+ times and commented upon 718 times.
Our intention is to at least double - and preferably triple - those numbers this year and with your continued support I am certain we'll be able to do so.

In an effort to help prevent spam, we have removed the display of email addresses with the comments. The requirement to add an email address when posting a comment has also been removed.

As the amount and frequency of comments has increased quite a bit they disappear of the front page much quicker than before. To allow people to still keep track of the latest comments without checking the site 2-3 times a day we have added a Latest Comments page which lists the last 30 comments added to the site.
A start has also been made on allowing authors to add a biography to their profile pages. The biographies can be displayed, but at the moment authors cannot edit these themselves. Those authors wishing to add a biography, please send them to us by email.

After having reached 500 stories just 2 weeks back, we have today broken 500 again. The 500th comment was added onto the site today.
We are also getting very close to 100,000 reads of our stories.

To provide more flexibility in how our stories are read we have added the option to change the font size of the stories. Each story has a box at the top right in which you can increase / decrease the font size. Please let us know if you would prefer even larger or smaller fonts and we'll update the script to accommodate.

500 stories, articles and poems! Traffic and submissions have really picked up lately and we have reached 500 submissions much earlier than we had expected.

Traffic has increased quite a bit in the last week or so, as has the amount of authors and stories. We have also received a lot of new content. Another 30+ stories are lined up to be published between now and the end of the year.

And that makes 400! That's right, we now have 400 stories on the site. Comments reached 300 a few days ago and we are getting quite close to 75,000 story reads.
Let's see if we can reach 500 stories by the end of the year.

We have just finished installing software to send out newsletters. The plan is to send out a newsletter once per month, with the first going out soon, with information on latest stories added, news, an occasional interview, etc.

300+ stories! Yep, we've added another 50 stories since breaking the 250 story barrier only 40 days ago. An average of 1.25 new stories per day.

Just a quick note to say that we've added a Science Fiction sub-category under Fiction.
Oh, and we now have over 150 comments on the stories.

A new sub-category, Mystery, has added under the Fiction category as with the arrival of Dean Barrett's murder mystery story (which started today and will appear on this site over the next 3 weeks, every Sunday and Thursday) it made sense to move the Mystery stories in a sub-category of their own.

The site has been upgraded to version 2.1.3 today. This fixed some minor bugs, mainly in the admin area.

Pebo has recently send us 13 short stories (mostly non-fictional travel stories), the first 2 of which have already been published. The remaining stories will appear on this site every Monday and Friday until the end of May.

Looks like the recent upgrade to version 2.1.2 had introduced a bug with the categories preventing users from viewing anything but the first page. This has been fixed today.
